William was born at Werribee, VIC in 1884 to Henry Dukelow and Fanny Beamish. He had a cousin, Henry Swanton⁽⁴⁾ also remembered in the Avenue.

He was a shearer when he enlisted at Randwick, NSW in the AIF, 2^nd Battalion, B Company, on the 27^th of August 1914 - just a fortnight after the declaration of war - aged 30. William embarked from Sydney, NSW in October aboard the HMAT A23 Suffolk, disembarking in Egypt in December.

William landed at Gallipoli on the 25^th of April 1915 and on the 12^th of May 1915 he was killed in action. He is remembered in the Lone Pine Memorial.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour, the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour, the Werribee RSL Honor Board and the St. Thomas` Church of England Honor Board, Werribee. William is also remembered at the Werribee War Memorial and the Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey.
