Charles was born at Bacchus Marsh, VIC in 1892 to Thomas Edwards and Honora Richards. Charles had two brothers, Roy and William, who are also remembered in the Avenue. Charlie was good friends with William Clark, also remembered in the Avenue.

Squadron, on the 19th of August 1914 - shortly after war was declared - aged 22. He embarked aboard the HMAT A18 Wiltshire in October, disembarking in Egypt in December.
He landed at Gallipoli in late May 1915.
The light horse were considered unsuitable for the initial operations at Gallipoli, but were subsequently deployed without their horses to reinforce the infantry. The 4th Light Horse Regiment landed on 22 and 24 May and its squadrons were initially scattered to reinforce the infantry battalions already ashore.

Charles returned to Egypt in late December.
In June 1916 Charles disembarked at Marseilles, France and two weeks later transferred to the II ANZAC Mounted Regiment, D
Squadron and in November was assigned as a Driver. He had two weeks leave in the middle of 1917 before returning to England in late August 1918 and embarking for Australia aboard the Arawa in September, on submarine guard duty.
Charles returned to Australia in November 1918 for special leave and was discharged from the AIF in January 1919.
Charles died in Bacchus Marsh, VIC, in 1980, aged 88.
He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour, the Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honor, the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour, the Roll of Honour for pupils of Parwan State School and the Holy Trinity Church Roll of Honour.
