Shortly after he was admitted to hospital in Calais, France and then transferred to the 1st Birmingham War Hospital, England. In June Albert was transferred to the 3rd Australian Army Hospital, Dartford, for three weeks before being discharged to the 3rd Command Depot. In December he embarked for Australia aboard the Somali, arriving back in Australia in February 1919 and was discharged from the AIF in May.
