Percival was born at Port Campbell, VIC in 1892 to Charles Hotham Jones(3) and Emily Laura Farrell. Percival had two brothers, Harold, who is also remembered in the Avenue and Hotham who is also listed on the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour.
Percival was a telegraphist in Queensland(4) when he enlisted in the AIF, Australian Corps Signals Company on the 29th of August 1917, aged 25. He embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT A14 Euripides in May 1918 as an Acting Corporal. He transhipped to the HMS Teutonic at New York, USA and disembarked at Liverpool, England in July where he reverted to the ranks - sapper.
In October 1918 Percival joined his unit in France. He was granted three weeks leave in April 1919 before returning to England in June. Percival embarked aboard the Chemnitz in July and disembarked at Sydney two months later. He was discharged from the AIF at the beginning of October.
Percival joined the Australian Army, 10th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps, QLD in 1942 and was discharged as a Lieutenant some time later.
He is listed on the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour and the Postmaster General's Department Victoria 1 Roll of Honour.
