Arthur was born at Ballan, VIC in 1897 to William Henry Ladhams(1) and Beatrice Walker Oldham(2). Arthur married Rouena Clive in England in 1918 and they had a son, Alan William Ladhams(3), born in Bacchus Marsh, VIC in 1923.
Arthur was a motor mechanic and gave his address as Bacchus Marsh, VIC when he enlisted in the AIF, 14th Reinforcements, 13th Light Horse Regiment on the 11th of May 1916, aged 18. He embarked aboard the HMAT A67 Orsova in December, dismbarking at Plymouth, England in February 1917.
In April 1917 Arthur spent a month in Delphi Hospital with pneumonia. He transferred to the Australian Flying Corps in August, with the 30th Training Squadron - a British designation - as an Air Mechanic 2nd Class. In January 1918 Arthur was promoted to Air Mechanic 1st Class and was further promoted to Acting Corporal in May with the 6th Training Squadron - an Australian designation. In late October Arthur married Rouena Clive and then in November was promoted to Corporal Mechanic. He was charged in January 1919, with using threatening language to a superior officer and reprimanded and forfeited 41 days pay. In February the sentence was expunged but the forfeiture remained. Arthur embarked for Australia aboard the SS Kaiser-i-Hind in May, disembarking in Australia in June and was discharged from the AIF in September.
Arthur Ladhams died at Caulfield, VIC in 1978, aged 80.
He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour, the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour, the Roll of Honour for pupils of Parwan State School and the Holy Trinity Church Roll of Honour.
