George Morgan was born in Dumbarton, Scotland in 1880 to Bernard and Susannah Morgan. Early in the 20th century George arrived in Australia, probably with his sister, Susannah, who married John McGrath in 1912.(2)

George was a ship's plater and gave his address as Neerim Junction, VIC when he enlisted in the AIF on the 1st of June 1916, aged 36 - he had previously served with the Argyle Sutherland Highlanders, Scotland, for six years, discharged in 1902. He embarked aboard the HMAT A15 Port Sydney in September with the 5th Reinforcements, 46th Battalion, disembarking at Plymouth, England in late October.

Towards the end of December 1916 George marched in to the 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, France and joined his unit in May 1917. George was promoted to Temporary Corporal in July. In October George was in charge of escorting a prisoner back to Base Depot - he was a Corporal at that time. George was promoted to Lance Sergeant in December. In January 1918 he was granted two weeks leave in England and then in October was granted a week's leave in Paris. In early November George was promoted to Sergeant and in January 1919 was again granted leave before returning to England in May. George embarked from England aboard the Frankfurt in July, returning to Australia in late August and was immediately admitted to Caufield Military Hospital. In December 1920 George was discharged from the AIF - medically unfit, DAH(1).

George Morgan died in Brisbane, QLD, in 1956, aged 76.

He is listed on the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour.
