George was born at Whittlesea, VIC in November 1886 to Robert Robson and Elizabeth Hall.

George was a platelayer when he enlisted in the AIF, 1^st Reinforcements, 7^th Battalion on the 21^st of September 1914, aged 27. He embarked aboard the HMAT A32 Themistocles in December, disembarking in Egypt in early 1915.

On the 25^th of April 1915 George, recently promoted to Lance Corporal, landed at Gallipoli and was wounded - shrapnel or bullet wounds - in the left arm, chest and thigh and admitted to a Casualty Clearing Station. He was then evacuated back to Egypt and admitted to Kasr-el-Aini Hospital, Cairo - dangerously ill. In late June he was transferred to the 1^st Australian General Hospital with a compound fracture of the femur - an operation was required to remove metal fragments. A week later he was transferred to the Australian and New Zealand Convalescent Depot before boarding at the Grand Hotel prior to embarking for home aboard the Horata in late July, returning to Australia in August. George returned to light duties in February 1916 and was discharged from the AIF in July, medically unfit - paresis left leg following fractured femur.

In 1918 he was running the Federal Luncheon Rooms⁽⁴⁾ in Bacchus Marsh and had also applied for and turned down the position of Thistle Inspector⁽⁵⁾⁽⁶⁾.

In 1932 George received a Kings Certificate⁽¹⁾.

George was at Laxtons Mill, Tanjil Bren, VIC during the fires in 1939⁽²⁾ and lost his certificate of discharge.

In June 1940 George enlisted in the Australian Army - V84693 and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant at the Heidelberg Military Hospital in April 1945.

George died at his home in Alphington, VIC in October 1954, aged 68.
