Albert Carter was born at Geelong, VIC, in 1895, to Robert Carter and Hannah Morgan.
Albert was a butcher and gave his address as Hawksburn, Melbourne, VIC, when he enlisted in the AIF, 37th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements, on the 3rd of October 1916, at the age of 21. He embarked aboard the HMAT A7 Medic in December and disembarked at Plymouth, England, in February 1917.
He joined the 37th Battalion in the field in August 1917 and on the 4th of October 1917, during the Battle of Broodseinde Ridge, he was hit by a machine gun bullet in the back. Albert Carter died while making his way back to a Dressing Station. He was reported to be buried in a field north of Zonnebeke, Belgium.
He is listed on the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour. He is also and remembered at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belguim.
