Albert Carter was born at Geelong, VIC, in 1895, to Robert Carter and Hannah Morgan.

Albert was a butcher and gave his address as Hawksburn, Melbourne, VIC, when he enlisted in the AIF, 37^th Battalion, 6^th Reinforcements, on the 3^rd of October 1916, at the age of 21. He embarked aboard the HMAT A7 Medic in December and disembarked at Plymouth, England, in February 1917.

He joined the 37^th Battalion in the field in August 1917 and on the 4^th of October 1917, during the Battle of Broodseinde Ridge, he was hit by a machine gun bullet in the back. Albert Carter died while making his way back to a Dressing Station. He was reported to be buried in a field north of Zonnebeke, Belgium.

He is listed on the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour. He is also and remembered at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belguim.
